About Thermowood
Thermowood — also known as thermally modified timber — represents the very best of modern timber technology. Produced by subjecting timber to extremely high temperatures in a controlled, steam-based process, Thermowood fencing delivers dramatically enhanced durability, stability, and rot resistance without the use of any chemicals or preservatives. The result is a premium, sustainable fencing material that outperforms many traditionally treated softwoods and is increasingly popular with architects, landscapers, and discerning homeowners.
The thermal modification process fundamentally changes the cell structure of the wood, reducing its moisture absorption and making it highly resistant to decay, warping, and insect damage. This means Thermowood fencing is particularly well suited to exposed garden locations, coastal settings, and anywhere subject to extremes of wet and dry — a common challenge across the UK.
Aesthetically, Thermowood has a distinctive rich, warm brown colouring that gives it a premium appearance straight from the pack. Over time, like most timbers, it will weather gracefully to a silver-grey if left untreated, or can be maintained with oil to preserve its original depth of colour.
Our Thermowood fencing boards are available Planed All Round (PAR), giving a clean, modern finish that suits contemporary garden design beautifully. Thermowood is also an excellent companion to our Thermowood cladding range, allowing you to carry a single, cohesive aesthetic from your garden boundary through to your building's exterior.
