About Western Red Cedar

Western Red Cedar is one of the most respected and widely used timbers in outdoor construction, and for very good reason. Known for its outstanding natural durability, lightweight properties, and beautiful warm reddish-brown tone, Western Red Cedar fencing is a premium choice that delivers both performance and visual appeal in equal measure.

One of the most compelling qualities of Western Red Cedar is its remarkable resistance to rot, decay, and insect damage, without the need for chemical treatment. This is thanks to the naturally occurring oils within the wood, which help protect it against moisture and the elements over many years. Left untreated, Cedar weathers to a distinguished silver-grey patina; treated with oil or stain, it retains its rich natural colour and can last for decades with minimal upkeep.

Cedar is also one of the most dimensionally stable timbers available, meaning it's less prone to warping, twisting, or splitting than many other species. This makes it an excellent choice for fencing in exposed or high-rainfall locations across the UK, where lesser timbers can quickly deteriorate.

As part of our broader timber fencing range, our Western Red Cedar fencing boards are supplied Planed All Round (PAR) for a clean, accurate finish. They work beautifully alongside our other cedar products, including Western Red Cedar cladding, to create a cohesive aesthetic across your garden or exterior. For those who prefer a harder, denser alternative, take a look at our Oak fencing or Larch fencing options.
